A Look At 2010...Crazy But Good

As 2010 draws to a close today midnight, another new year will be waiting for us.

...

Actually, that depends on whether you want to face it. (Wait, what am I saying?)

So I am going to review some of the things that happened in Singapore in this year. To make things easier to read, we'll stick to 5 of my favourite incidents that happened this year. There's the good, the bad and of course, the ugly.

Now for the top 5...Enjoy.
5. Orchard Road flood

When water hits your favourite shopping area, it's not cool.

A blocked culvert resulted in the flood that submerged Orchard Road in knee-high water. Leaves and debris were clogged there, hence water could not flow into Stamford Canal's smaller section, which stretches from Delfi Orchard to Lucky Plaza.

It surged to the canal's other section stretching from Orchard Parade Hotel to Liat Towers and Wisma Atria instead. Water surged out from this channel onto the junction of Orchard Road and Scotts Road - the worst-hit area - and disrupted traffic and business.

Imagine shopping in knee-deep water...not exactly a fun experience after all.

Anyway, a section of the kerb in front of a traffic light at the Royal Thai Embassy was raised by up to 50cm earlier this month to prevent the same thing from happening again. This was one of the first stretches to be completed and many more will soon follow to protect Singapore's shopping haven from turning into a swimming pool again. Yay. :D

4. YOG -- Singapore's pride as hosts!

Singapore, for the first time, held their very Olympic Games event. (Ok, some of you might think that it's YOUTH Olympic Games, but then it's a start.

Maybe one day Singapore will host Olympic Games, or even World Cup (um...maybe not in the near future.)!

Then, of course we have the epic fail cheer from JJ Lin. But it's not his fault, really. I think he does a pretty decent job out of a CMI song. (Wait, is it a song or cheer? See! Can't tell a bloody difference! :S) The lyrics and the actions were the letdown of the entire thing. I mean, what's with the Hadouken thingy???
And the "oh yea, oh yea, oh yea, hey!"...

"Oh yea , oh yea, oh yea HEY! Why you copy my signature move???"

Anyway, Singapore did decently for the Games. A tally of 2 silver and 5 bronze is not a bad result for our budding athletes. Let's hope our sport talents can do even better next time!

And before I forget, I think with YOG, this will perhaps be a good starting point for us citizens to support our own country's sports matters. It should help, in a way, to raise awareness among the people.
3. Sex maniacs on the move! Watch your back!

Uh huh, you heard me right! Too many sex-related crimes have occurred this year. Just when you thought the the molester who needed girls to "feel his heartbeat" was bad enough, then along came Mr. Sim Keng Tee, stage left.

We have heard of camera-wielding pervs, but he took it to a whole new level.

If you think you might get sick now, just scroll down to the next review. Forget about reading this if you are faint-hearted. Seriously. Before you get disgusted...
Ok. Here we go.

So, this guy, a 35-year old former civilian officer, filmed him doing a sexual act and then collected his body fluids (no saying what it is). He then poured the stuff into his friends' drink bottles, and filmed them gulping down the entire thing.

Urrgh.

Luckily for all, he was caught and sentenced to 18 months in jail, with another 149 charges pending to be slapped onto his face. Whew! Let's hope such sick stuff can decrease in the new year!

2. Religious leaders get into headlines for wrong reasons!

You know the news.

You know the names.

Because this is a sensitive thing to discuss, we shall not go deep into the issues. But what I want to say is, religion should not go with money. They never work together. Period.

SO... Let's go on to my #1 event in Singapore for 2010.

1.
Demise of Mrs Lee Kuan Yew

The demise of Mrs Lee Kuan Yew, aged 89 years old, has deeply saddened Singaporeans. Having been married together for 61 years, she has constantly been a moral support for MM Lee. The fact that their love held strong after so many years is a good example for many, especially when divorce is rife in today 's society.

It indeed was a sad day for many Singaporeans on October 2, 2010. May you reat in peace, Mrs Lee.

Tis' The Season To Be Jolly! --24/12/10

Happy Christmas peeps!

This is the season to be jolly! So off I went to another party! :D

This is the party on the 24th.

I went early in the morning to help prepare the food and other stuff for the party. When I reached, some of the guys already started work already!!! But I still tried to help out a bit (even though it was not very much).

Peiyi preparing for the songs later.

Kenneth preparing the chocolate fondue! ♥

Soon the guests began coming in. Boss gave us an opening speech about how Christmas came about. I thought it was ok to know more, even though I normally don't celebrate Christmas. Then the fun begins!!! We played "Poison Number" and "Werewolf 'n' Villagers". One of the forfeits that the losers have to do include getting toothpaste on your face. It was fun, really, especially for the NSFs since they normally (and rightfully so) won't do such a thing to their superiors. So it ended up something like this...

Smear, smear!

S'pore's very own Santa Claus and Rudolph. Hope they give 4D and TOTO tickets as presents!

After that, we began our mass game Charades. It was funny, basically of the wierd actions the actor has to do before their team could finally guess. Sometimes it took so long that the other teams were probably laughing too much that they got too tired to answer when the team failed to guess the designated word. Things like...

E.T. (done by me, walao, I don't look like one anyway)

What are you pointing at?!

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Shawn Loh tried very hard, we know.)

Roar! HERE COMES THE TIGER!!!

And a very failed impersonation of G.I Joe. (not his fault really, since it's really hard to impersonate)

You wanna fight issit?

After which, it was free and easy for a while, so some of us went to play billards...

I bet I can hit all 15 balls into the pockets in one shot!

...and Karaoke.

Nicholas: I wish Bernice was with me... Disclaimer: The above line was purely fake.

Then it was time to cut the Christmas logcake, and also celebrate the birthays of the December babies!!!

And that's about it! Well, it was a fun-filled morning of games and food. Let's hope we have something awesome like this next year!!! :D

:D

Right, I should have included this in my previous post...

While shopping on Thursday, I actually bought something for the party on the 24th. For those who are going, you will know what I am talking about.

Let's see who the lucky person.

Anyway, a sneak peak of the present is here. So it's up to your imagination what it is. Have fun guessing. :D

A Week Of Madness, Fun and Joy

What an eventful week that was!

Loads of shopping and loads of partying=fun!

First off, on Thursday night, we have Kenneth Phua's birthday party at Hog's Breath Cafe (the one at CHIJMES). This one was more of a birthday surprise for him, as he actually didn't know beforehand that we are coming and we have prepared loads of presents for him!

Oh, and not forgetting another surprise. We made Kenneth do something with a condom (Yea no kidding) and he had to pick one of the 3 actions to do with it. If you want to know what is it, please go to my FB page and take a look... :P

"Kenneth's Crazy Act here!"

Actually, before I forget, on Thursday afternoon, I went for massive shopping cos Christmas is coming!!!

And I bought myself a Glee album! :D Finally my wish came true! (Though I fulfilled it myself, but well...). Without further ado, I listened to the album straight after reaching home. I was pretty satisfied with the songs they have covered, and the songs I like include Forget You and Empire State of Mind. Glee's version of Teenage Dream is a refreshing one, since it was sung by a guy instead (original by Katy Perry). It's a bit wierd actually hearing a guy singing the lyrics though.

However, there were a couple of songs that they missed out, which made me go "Aww...man!". Songs like "Stop! In The Name Of Love/ Free Your Mind" and "Hey Soul Sister" could have added a greater appeal to the album, but let's hope they release those song in the next album.

Overall, a good collection.

Moving on...

On Saturday, we went to Aaron's house to celebrate his birthday. Actually, a week before, something funny happened...

"Aaron: Hey, did you receive my invite on FB?

Me: Uh...I haven't checked. Let me go take a look.

A day later...

Me: Hey, where's your invite??? I didn't receive leh!

Aaron: Eh? Let me take a look. (scrolls through my FB page to check out my "Events" page.)

Aaron: Oh.

Me: ???

Aaron: I think I forgot to include you in my invites..."

-.-///

Anyway, I got his invite after that. We had great fun in his house. Played Rock Band:Green Day and Fifa 11 and had a sumptuous dinner before we head home. Thanks Aaron, for your invite! Hope you enjoy your B'day!!! :D

Another Simple Drawing :D

This was done shortly after the first...but it was only completed today due to the complexity of the Real Madrid crest, which made me go...

X-S

...But well, at least it's completed. Hope you like it. :D

A Simple Drawing :)

Watching the Milan Derby inspired me to draw this...Looks simple but hope everyone likes it. (Actually, drawing the club crest of both teams made me feel like crying, especially Inter's as there is no room for error! :S)

There we go...

Interesting Read -- The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time

"Although gifted with a superbly logical brain, 15 year old Christopher Boone is autistic and everyday interactions and admonishments have little meaning to him. He lives on patterns, rules, and a diagram kept in his pocket. Then one day, his neighbour's dog was killed and Christopher sets out to solve the murder in the style of his favourite (logical) detective Sherlock Holmes."

This is the start of a book that I have recently read. Was scouting the library for a new book to read when I came across this. And it made for a rather interesting read. What caught my attention in this book is the humour and the way the main character were portrayed. It gives a greater insight to how autistic people think. To a person with a painfully narrow knowledge of autistic people like me, it was an enriching experience reading this book. They are just as smart as any of us, just that their way of processing logic and information is valid but just different, or possible never thought of by others. Let's get you an example...

"Chapters in books are usually given the cardinal number 1,2,3,4,5,6 and so on. But I have decided to give my chapters prime numbers 2,3,5,7,11,13 and so on because I like prime numbers. ... Prime numbers are useful for writing codes and in America they are classified as Military material and if you ever find one over 100 digits long you ahve to tell the CIA and they buy it off you for $10,000. But it would not be a very good way of making a living.

Prime numbers are what that is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them."

Now that got my attention. He's right. As I was reading, there were times I was thinking,"Why the heck didn't I think of that?!"

Oh one more thing, I think this book taught me another lesson. It goes to show that anyone, no matter who you are, can achieve the impossible as long as you want to do it. The main character, Christopher, wanted to find his mother in London. But he didn't really know how to. That, though didn't stop him from trying and ultimately, finding his mother. He overcame many difficulties and his fears (of which I shall not reveal, cos that will spoil the fun of reading this book.).

I guess that sums up what I felt about the book. If you would like to read the book, it's by Mark Haddon and the title is "The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time".

Hi ALL! :D

Hi all!

Will be posting stuff in this blog soon!

See ya! :D
